Earlier today several tornadoes moved through southern sections of Highlands County resulting in one fatality, one child injured and significant property damage. The fatality and injury to the child occurred at a residence on Montana Trail in Venus. There was one house completely destroyed on Bob White Trail also in the Venus area. There was severe property damage in the 800 block of Lake June Road, Twin Lakes Road and the 200 block of Cloverleaf Road.
Authorities are continuing to respond to calls in the southern sections of the county. We will release updates as further information becomes available.
We ask that all residents stay indoors and away from windows during the remainder of the storm. Injuries should be reported to 911 and property damage may be called in to Highlands County Central Dispatch at 863-402-7200.
