Christy is a native of Highlands County graduating from Sebring High School in 1969. She also received her A.S. degree from Jones Business College in 1971.
She has been employed by the State of Florida and Highlands County government for 38 years.
In February, 1990 Christy obtained the newly created position as the first recycling program manager. Along with recycling operations and recycling education, she oversees the Household Hazardous and Electronic Waste (E-Waste) programs and collection events.
Also falling under this umbrella is the administration of the Used Sharps Disposal Program. Christy established relationships among local pharmacies who partner with Highlands County to act as transfer sites for collection and disposal of used sharps (needles from self administered medications in the home). This program is free of charge for the residents of Highlands County.
Christy also acts in the position of Executive Director for Keep Highlands County Beautiful, Incorporated. Established and supported by a Board of County Commissioners’ initiative established in 1995, KHCB is a 501(c)(3) organization which utilizes grants and donations to provide beautification projects and Adopt-A-Road programs.
Christy is available for educational programs on recycling, litter prevention, Adopt A Road programs and beautification projects (funded through the Keep Highlands County Beautiful, Inc. organization).
