As Highlands County Extension Director and Commercial Horticulture Agent, John provides leadership and direction to the Extension program and the commercial horticulture industry in Highlands County. This position also holds responsibility for administrative operations of the program within a framework of guidelines set by the University of Florida and the Highlands County Government. 

John holds doctorate in plant science from the University of Arkansas and other degrees in Horticulture from the University of Idaho and Washington State University.  He has also held various appointments with the Ministry of Agriculture in Trinidad and Tobago; his last appointment was at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Port of Spain.  Dr. Alleyne is a recipient of the Florida Association of Natural Resource Extension Professionals/Florida Exotic Pest Plant Council Award.
